Who we are

Montícola is a wine produced from old vineyards located in the heart of the international Douro natural reserve near the village of Freixo de Espada à Cinta. The name of the wine comes from a blue blackbird, monticola solitarius, which lives in these vineyards and shares our history.

A family estate where the main goal is to produce a distinctly superior wine based on non-industrialized methods.

Our wine, grapes and team

Our wine is the result of bottling the rich and splendorous terroir of the Douro Superior. We have chosen to produce only limited editions of each wine, so that each bottle is always of high quality and with an outstanding quality-price ratio.

Our red grape varieties include Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Barroca, and the white varieties include Côdega do Larinho, Arinto, Syria, Fernão Pires and Malvasia Fina.

Our team is made up of the experienced winemaker Manuel Areal, the agronomy expert Norberto Bonifácio and Miguel Martins who is in charge of agriculture operations. Every year we recruit local labor for all agricultural and harvesting jobs.
